Sacramental Preparation

Forming faithful hearts for the sacraments.

At St. Michael’s Catholic Church, we are honored to walk with children, youth, and families as they prepare to receive the sacraments and grow more deeply in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Sacramental preparation is an important step in the life of faith, helping candidates understand the meaning of each sacrament and the grace it offers through the life of the Church.

Preparation for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation is rooted in prayer, catechesis, participation in the Mass, and ongoing formation in the Catholic faith. Through this process, candidates are invited not only to learn about the sacraments, but also to encounter Christ more fully and grow as active members of the parish community.

Parents are the primary educators of their children in the faith, and their involvement is an essential part of the sacramental preparation process. Our parish supports families through formation, guidance, and encouragement as they prepare for these sacred milestones together.

Specific program requirements, preparation timelines, and celebration dates are shared through the parish formation process and are provided in accordance with parish and diocesan guidelines.

St. Michael’s Catholic Church is grateful to accompany families during this meaningful time of faith, preparation, and celebration.

first reconciliation

At St. Michael’s, preparation for First Reconciliation is offered for children who are ready to encounter God’s mercy in the Sacrament of Confession for the first time. Through age-appropriate catechesis, prayer, and guidance, children learn about sin, forgiveness, examination of conscience, and the healing love of God.

This preparation helps children understand the beauty of God’s mercy and the peace that comes through reconciliation with Him and His Church. Parents play an important role in helping their children prepare by encouraging prayer, conversation, and trust in God’s love.

first holy communion

Preparation for First Holy Communion is offered for children who desire to receive the Holy Eucharist for the first time. Through formation, prayer, and participation in the Mass, children are taught the meaning and reverence of the Eucharist and come to understand the Real Presence of Christ in this most holy sacrament.

This preparation invites children to grow in their love for Jesus and in their understanding of the Eucharist as the source and summit of the Christian life. Families are encouraged to actively participate in the process as children prepare to receive Our Lord in Holy Communion for the first time.

CONFIRMATION

Preparation for Confirmation is offered for youth who are ready to receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit in this sacrament. Through catechesis, prayer, service, and ongoing participation in the life of the Church, candidates are formed to more fully embrace their faith and their identity as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Confirmation strengthens the grace of Baptism and equips young people to live their faith with courage, witness, and commitment. The preparation process encourages candidates to deepen their relationship with Christ, grow in understanding of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and recognize their call to active participation in the Church.
