What Is Reconciliation!- In the Sacrament of Reconciliation we confess our sins. Sincere contrition for our sins means that we reorder our lives and convert, or turn away from wrong choices we have made and turn toward God. We regret our sinful thoughts and actions and seek absolution, we are open to Jesus' gifts of mercy, forgiveness, and healing. With renewed hope we pray and perform good works in Christ to make up for the harm we have done. In doing so, we express our sorrow and learn to change the behavior that leads us to sins of omission and commission.
What is penance- In order to have sins absolved resulting from our Reconciliation the penitent receives from his confessor what is called his/her "penance". This is a form of certain prayers which he/she is to say, or certain actions which he/she is to perform. Actions could be visits to the church, the Stations of the Cross etc. The penitent may receive another sacrament -Holy Communion- immediately after Reconciliation since absolution restores him to the state of grace. However he/she is still under obligation to continue the performance of his penance until it is completed.
What prayer do we say during our confession to Father!- There are two Act Of Contrition Prayers we have listed below:
Act of Contrition --- My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help , to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy. Amen
Act of Contrition --- Oh my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all my sins, because of your just punishments, but most of all because they offend you, my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen
When do we have Reconciliation/Confession!- At St. Michael's Catholic Church every Saturday from 3:15pm-3:45pm or by appointment.
